"Quoit Night Out"

On
September 7, 2000, we had our first "Quoit Night Out" in my
back yard. I invited 9 of my quoit-throwing friends over for an
evening of quoits and socializing. Everyone had such a great time they
all would like to get together to do this again before it gets too cold
in the evenings this Fall. Here are a few of the photos I took of
the action...
|
||||
A
few of the competitors team up early in the evening. Kevin Bowers
watches as Tim Meyer, Karl Scott, Brad Kramer, and Dave Callis
start a new game.
|
Greg
Sollenberger pitches his last quoit as Dave Callis looks on. The
quoits are sure sticking upright in the clay tonight!
|
|||
Dave
Callis lands a Point while Brad Kramer waits his turn to hopefully take
it away.
|
Greg Sollenberger shows good form behind the foul line. Gene Shaiebly is intent on planning his strategy for his turn at the line. |
|||
A
good grouping, but "A" comes away with four good points on
this pitch, with a Ringer and a Toucher.
|
Troy
Frey sends his quoit arcing toward the opposing pit.
|
|||
Gene
Shaiebly lets one fly!
|
Gene
made the best pitch of the night right here - scoring 5 points for
both a Ringer and a Leaner.
|
|||
This
was a close attempt at topping the opponents She-quoit Ringer, but it
came up just a bit short! Remember, She-quoits count only when we
play by my House Rules, as we were this evening. The more points
the merrier!!
|
Greg
Sollenberger follows through on his pitch. Or, is he perhaps
trying to hail a Cab?
"Hey,
Taxi!"
|
|||
Kevin's
turn to throw. Note the crowbar hanging on the pit cover, which was used
to pry stubborn quoits out of the soft clay when they buried themselves
deep!
|
These two pictures, above and below, show the best throwing sequence of the evening. First, Fred Rowe pitched the two Leaners seen above during his turn. Then below, Dick Parson's second quoit nosed into the clay in front of the pin, flipped over, knocked away both Leaners, and leaned itself onto the pin for 2 points, taking away Fred's would-be 4 points! Woo Hoo! |

Tim
Meyer and Karl Scott in action. Snacks and beverages for the
evening were provided under the inviting canopy on my backyard deck.
